The Top 5 Nightclubs in Bangkok

Location

For safety and convenience, the top nightclubs must be in a very accessible location — easy to go to and easy to leave from, even if everyone in your party is already drunk.

Music

What’s a nightclub without a great selection of dance music?

Theme/Ambience

This criterion is where nightclubs shine. If a club has a unique theme to get the party started, then we’re all in!

Crowd/Audience

The club’s crowd also helps set the mood of the nightclub and its party. Plus, it’s better to party with like minds, right?

Pros

  • Largest club in the RCA area
  • Has three different club spaces
  • Large outdoor seating area
  • Great look and ambience
  • For the younger crowd

Cons

  • Management and staff can be rude
  • Members only on weekends
  • Discriminatory against Indians, Arabs, or Indonesians
  • Unreasonable ID policy for foreigners

Route66 is a nightclub located in the Royal City Avenue (RCA), the nightlife area of Bangkok. It’s just around 30 minutes via car from Pathum Wan, and it’s easy to spot because of its proximity to other Bangkok nightclubs.

Guests under 20 years old are not allowed, but this nightclub’s crowd is still mainly younger people below 30.

It’s one of Bangkok’s best clubs for a few reasons.

First, Route66 is the largest club in the area. It has an open area for seating and three clubbing stages for variety: one with chill or ambient music, another with live music, and one where the dancefloor and DJ are.

We agree that this nightclub has excellent entertainment facilities. It also holds specially-themed events once in a while.

However, if you’re planning to go to Route66, then you should manage your expectations. We received contradicting comments from clubgoers about the entrance and rules here.

Most customers say this club is easy to access with standard door price (for farangs only) and good service. Yet some customers beg to differ.

They told us that Route66 management is quite discriminatory — it’s been barring Indians, Arabians, and Indonesians from entry; some customers even experienced being charged a ridiculous amount for the door price and required drinks.

This club’s policy for ID-ing foreign guests also seems absurd to us because the club wants foreigners to present the original copy of their passports for entry. We all know people can lose stuff when partying and drinking, and leaving essential documents at home or the hotel is best.

Reports about rude staff also don’t help these negative reviews.

We hope that Route66 management will improve their current policies so that everyone can have an excellent local or foreign clubbing experience.

Saturdays and Sundays are for members only, so schedule your trip to this club in advance.

2. Onyx Bangkok

  • Friday and Saturday, 9:00 PM – 1:00 AM

Pros

  • Great look and ambience
  • Great sound system
  • Door price (for foreigners) includes 2 drinks already

Cons

  • Some staff doesn’t understand English
  • Outside seating area is a bit small
  • No dancefloor

If you’re still in the RCA area and are looking for another nightclub to go to, you can drop by Onyx Bangkok. It’s just beside the Route66 nightclub.

This club also looks good and has an excellent sound system. However, the biggest drawback is that it has minimal space to dance.

Onyx’s supposed dance floor is flooded with standing tables for patrons instead. It also has a small outside seating space.

We think this nightclub is best for groups or couples that want a more intimate nightclub experience.

Thai people can enter without an entrance fee, while farangs or foreigners require a door price of THB 500, which already includes two drinks.

This club has a young demographic of adult patrons. Some customers noticed that the crowd in Onyx is more local than foreign, and it caters more to Chinese foreigners than other nationalities.

Another significant drawback is that the Onyx staff doesn’t talk or understand the English language. If you’re a foreigner on a night out and are trying to order things in this club, you will have difficulty communicating your orders to the waitstaff.

This club also requires foreigners to present their original passports for entry into the premises — another minus in our book. We are already in the digital age, and digital versions should be honored at the gate for the efficiency and safety of documents.

Overall, Onyx Bangkok is a great nightclub. Still, it’s not wrong to manage expectations and be mindful of the policies that can limit your enjoyment of the clubbing experience here.

3. DJ Station

Pros

  • Great ambience, music, and location
  • Pride-friendly establishment
  • Nightly drag queen show
  • Entrance fee already includes two drinks

Cons

  • Can get very crowded on weekends

DJ Station is one of the most unique nightclubs we’ve seen for this list. If you want an LGBTQIA+ friendly experience (especially in this pride-friendly country), then DJ Station must be a stop on your itinerary.

It’s a gay nightclub offering drinks and party music to clubgoers. On top of these, DJ Station also has drag shows every night at around 11 PM.

Like the other nightclubs we’ve been to, this one also has a predominantly young demographic of party-goers. But don’t fret — we think that even the more mature clubgoers can still enjoy this nightclub’s offerings.

Customers of DJ Station that we’ve talked to love the place. They told us about the drinks, the overall party ambiance, and the staff’s excellent service.

The drag shows are what you’ll usually expect but are still entertaining: drag queens dressed to the nines, belting it out (lipsync) to enjoyable songs. Albeit somewhat unpolished at times, these still contribute very well to the great experience in this nightclub.

If you dislike crowds, visit this nightclub from Sunday to Thursday. But if you want a party, come here on a Friday or Saturday.

The entrance fee to DJ Station costs THB 300 with two complimentary drinks. If you’re finished watching the drag shows, you can also visit the other bars in its compound, Silom 2.

4. Mustache Bangkok

Pros

  • Best underground club in town
  • Reasonable entrance and drink prices
  • Monthly change of venue (for one night only)
  • Parties end at 3 AM

Cons

  • Only open on Fridays and Saturdays
  • “Takeover” events might be in higher-risk places

Mustache Bangkok prides itself as the best underground club in town. It’s best known for its European style of clubbing, wherein the DJ is in the middle of a huge dance floor.

However, this setup recently changed after Mustache Bangkok moved its location from Ratchada to a smaller one in Sukhumvit 23. Its techno and house music parties now have a DJ in front of the crowd.

Mustache Bangkok is also known for featuring local talents. You can quickly check who is the club’s current guest DJ on its social media pages.

It also has monthly events called Mustache Takeover, where the whole nightclub moves into a different venue for a night. Mustache Bangkok does this at other nightclubs or locations like warehouses, rooftops, and boats.

Mustache Takeover is a very great idea, giving this club the edge. However, we hope that the management of Mustache Bangkok will always consider the safety of its patrons by having safety measures tailored to its Takeover locations.

The party doesn’t stop until around 3:00 AM in Mustache Bangkok during the two days it’s open weekly. We hope that as the nightclub gains momentum again, it will add more days to the parties.

Entrance and drinks are reasonably priced, but manage your expectations when it comes to the waitstaff service. Don’t let the alcohol cloud your ordering skills that much.

Pros

  • Accessible location
  • Industrial-style aesthetic
  • Has guest DJs

Cons

  • Minimal to non-existent dance floor
  • Playlist includes top K-POP and rap hits
  • Drinks are expensive

If you want to rock your body in Deep House or Trance music, then BEAM is for you. This nightclub in Sukhumvit 55 matches these types of party music to an industrial-type aesthetic.

Beam regularly brings in guest DJs to play shows. However, many customers noted that without these guest DJs, the overall vibe of BEAM gets boring.

This sentiment is understandable for us since the partygoer demographic of BEAM is mostly younger people with more time to spend in clubs like college students and young working professionals.

BEAM is only open on Fridays and Saturdays. Given the intimate industrial vibe of this place, its drinks are also entirely on the expensive side.

The club has changed quite recently. The first change is in its music.

BEAM added mass pop hits like K-POP and mainstream rap hits to the bulk of its playlist. Its House and Trance music now just plays for around an hour each night.

It also used to have a normal-sized dance floor. However, BEAM recently added more cocktail tables on this floor to accommodate changing tastes and demographics of its patrons.

Given BEAM’s promising beginning, we hope for it to either go back to its roots or evolve into a better experience. We hope it improves the type of music it plays and brings back the dance floor.
