Is ICONSIAM worth a visit?

ICONSIAM is worth visiting in Bangkok due to its unique offerings. It is one of Bangkok’s best luxury shopping malls which consists of around 7,000 stores such as boutiques, restos, entertainment options, and many more!

You can find anything in this lifestyle complex, from shoes and jewellery to everything in between!

How big is ICONSIAM?

ICONSIAM occupies an impressive 750,000 m² on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok’s Khlong San District. With this, it holds the record as the mall with the largest occupied lot area in Thailand.

In terms of gross leasable area (GLA), ICONSIAM is the second-largest shopping mall in Thailand, with 525,000 m² of space for its outlets. This is 5% less than Central Plaza Westgate’s space, which has 550,278 m² available for leasing. 

Although ICONSIAM’s GLA comes second among Bangkok’s largest shopping malls, it has the most number of stores, with over 500 retail and entertainment outlets. It also offers 100 dining options and features over 7,000 brands.

In addition to its impressive shopping and dining offerings, ICONSIAM also features multiple entertainment venues, art installations, and cultural attractions. It also has extensive outdoor areas, including a riverside promenade.

We took the time to visit each of the sections of ICONSIAM to see everything the mall has to offer thoroughly. To make the most of your visit, consider spending multiple days exploring the complex.

What are the best things to do in ICONSIAM? 

There are plenty of exciting things to do in ICONSIAM, like watching movies, shopping at high-end designer stores, dining at gourmet restaurants, and taking in stunning views of the Chao Phraya River. 

We also recommend seeing the light show at the River Park and visiting the Heritage Museum. However, given the vast offerings and attractions in ICONSIAM, we will list down some of the best, one-of-a-kind experiences you can have here!

1. Watch movies at its impressive cineplex: ICON CINECONIC

The ICON CINECONIC provides one of the most outstanding viewing experiences in Bangkok. It has 14 cinemas, each featuring a VIP Screen, IMAX Screen, and a 4DX Screen among others.

One feature we noted that is most appreciated by families is the Kid’s Cinema, which is complete with a play area! It even has slides, a ball pit, and a child-friendly layout where kids can run around safely.

River Park

Located in front of ICONLUXE, River Park provides a stunning view of the Chao Phraya River surrounded by lush, green auspicious trees.

Furthermore, it’s amazing that each plant at River Park was carefully chosen to correspond with Thai beliefs and “Thainess”.

The ICONIC Multimedia Water Feature

The multimedia water and light show at the Outdoor River Park in ICONSIAM is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the mall, but especially for those with kids in tow. 

This particular attraction is renowned to be the longest show in Southeast Asia. It forms water shapes that move in all directions in 2D, 3D, and 4D.

The outdoor park features a massive LED screen stretching over 400 metres along the Chao Phraya River, which comes alive with a dazzling display of lights and sound every evening. 

Currently, The ICONIC Multimedia Water Feature tells the story of Thai culture and history through stunning visual effects and music. It’s an immersive experience watching the spectacular show featuring stunning visual effects set to a captivating soundtrack. 

For us, this is a unique and unforgettable experience that leaves visitors with a lasting impression.

Best of all, the show can be viewed for free from the park’s outdoor seating areas. People can catch the show twice daily at 06:30 PM and 08:00 PM, making it an excellent winding down activity.

Here, visitors with inquisitive minds can gain an insight into Thailand’s rich history and culture through a range of exhibits and interactive displays.

The museum showcases the evolution of Thai culture and society, from ancient times to the present day, through various exhibits and multimedia presentations.

Tasana Nakorn

Location: 6th floor

Tasana Nakorn is a high-rise restaurant that serves Thai and Italian food and drinks. This zone is perfect for visitors who want to eat while enjoying the view of the Chao Phraya River.

Alangkarn

Location: 6th floor

Alangkarn is known as ‘The Paradise of Eatery’. This is where visitors usually dine if they want to explore the 10 semi-sculptural Dining Pavilions designed by three amazing Thai artists.

Dining on the 5th

Location: 5th Floor

As its name suggests, this is a restaurant on the 5th floor of ICONSIAM. This might be your best bet if you’re in the mood for Thai or Chinese food and also want to enjoy the stunning view of the Chao Phraya River.

Rose Dining

Location: 4th floor

Rose Dining is your finest choice if you’re craving Asian food. This area of ICONSIAM is home to six iconic Japanese eateries and one Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant.

Dining on the 4th

Location: 4th floor

If you don’t feel like eating heavy meals, Dining on the 4th is your go-to zone for eating. There are ten different shops located here, including ones selling milk tea, pastries, barbecues, and many more.

The Veranda

Location: Ground floor

The Veranda is ICONSIAM’s first dining area that offers full-course meals. There are ten renowned restaurants here, along with ten more eateries that serve drinks, desserts, and sweets.

SookSiam

Aside from being an iconic cultural attraction, this zone at ICONSIAM also serves different Thai cuisine. 

5. Shop until you drop, with over 7,000 brands in over 500 shops

ICONSIAM is home to over 500 retail shops, ranging from luxury fashion brands to popular Thai labels, offering visitors a wide variety of shopping options to choose from. 

It’s where you can get your fix on everything from designer clothing to high-end jewellery, as well as all the latest gadgets and tech. We were amazed at the dedicated luxury wing that houses some of the world’s most renowned designer labels.

Moreover, if you’re up for something more affordable, there are plenty of options as well—you can find everything from local Thai brands to international favourites like Gucci.

SookSiam 

Located on the ground floor, SookSiam was designed as a zone in ICONSIAM that showcases the distinctive cultural legacy of each of Thailand’s four major geographic regions. It showcases visual and performing arts as well as traditional knowledge.

Known as Bangkok’s “Indoor Floating Market, SookSiam features vendors selling various traditional Thai goods, including handicrafts, clothing, and souvenirs. 

The best part here is that visitors can explore the usual offerings found in Thai markets—minus the heat! Visitors can explore the market by boat and buy from vendors selling wares from small wooden boats floating along the river. 

And the best part? You can take a break from shopping and indulge in some delicious traditional Thai food while enjoying live performances by local musicians and dancers.

But remember to bring loose change as some vendors at the Floating Market still only accept cash. The market is open daily and attracts both locals and tourists alike. 

Siam Takashimaya

SIAM TAKASHIMAYA is a seven-floor Japanese department store on ICONSIAM that carries internationally known brands, and exclusive Japanese labels which have never been sold in Thailand.

ICONLUXE

The ICONLUXE is home to more than 20 luxury brand outlets, including well-known labels like Versace, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Hermes, Dior, Gucci, and more.

6. Visit Thailand’s first official Apple Store

The Apple Store is the first official Apple Store in Thailand. Like the typical Apple Store, it has the latest Apple products. 

Also, customers can receive support from Apple Geniuses trained to provide technical assistance and troubleshooting advice. 

What we liked about it, though, was its simple and elegant interior–much like its products. Its two-story-high windows create an open atmosphere, giving customers a view of a terrace overlooking the Chao Phraya River and Bangkok’s skyline.

There are also plenty of sitting areas and tables where people can wait and hang around while waiting in the queue. 

A huge flat-screen TV dominates the central space where creative programs are held, and this is a refreshing space, with trees and small wooden chairs dotted around it. 

If you’re shopping here as a tourist, remember to bring your passport to take advantage of the tax refund. Ask the staff for a VAT refund form and keep the invoice.

Depending on the day, waiting times are longer here and can take up to an hour. But, overall, ICONSIAM’s Apple Store provides a good shopping experience, with its up-to-date facilities and multilingual staff.

7. Work on your body in Asia’s largest Fitness First facility

Gym time is a great way to keep your body and mind healthy. If you’re looking for a gym with everything you need, ICONSIAM’s Fitness First is the place for you.

This branch of Fitness First is noteworthy because it has the biggest floor space in all of Asia. Plus, it provides the most modern and innovative gym equipment to achieve the greatest precision and efficiency in working out–which we found very impressive!

The fitness centre offers an extensive range of equipment, including treadmills, rowing machines, weight benches, dumbbells, and more. 

We adore its swimming pool with views of the Chao Phraya River. Plus, it has a sauna where people can relax after working out.

If you’re a tourist and want to try out this magnificent place, or if you’re interested in trying out the gym but aren’t sure if it’s right for you, we have great news for you!

ICON Fitness First offers a free trial that’s good for 30 days! Just sign up on their official website and wait for the confirmation, and you can use the clubs and amenities, including the pool, without paying a single Baht.

To be clear, group fitness classes are not included in the free Access Pass; it is solely intended for use on the gym floor.

On the other hand, with an active member plan, you receive unlimited use of the gym facilities and access to unlimited group classes. Members can also focus on recovery on the HydroMassage Bed in the Reactivation Zone.

When is the best time to visit ICONSIAM?

The best time to visit ICONSIAM is during the weekdays, especially in the morning or early afternoon, when it’s less crowded and easier to navigate. For a livelier atmosphere, go on the weekends to enjoy a more bustling vibe.

We also recommended visiting during the cooler months from November to February. During this time, temperatures are more comfortable, and there is less humidity, making it easier to explore the outdoor areas. 

Additionally, these months coincide with several festive events in Thailand, such as the Loy Krathong Festival and the Chinese New Year, which are celebrated in and around ICONSIAM. 

ICONSIAM is also beautifully decorated during the holiday season, creating a festive atmosphere for visitors. However, it’s worth noting that this time of year can be busier, and prices for hotels and transportation may be higher.

How to Get to ICONSIAM

ICONSIAM is at the BTS station called “Krung Thonburi Station” on the Silom Line. Get off at Exit 3 and change to Sky Train Gold Line, then alight at Charoennakorn Station.

There are several other modes of transportation available to reach ICONSIAM, including public boats, public buses, hotel boat services, and ICONSIAM shuttle boats.
