Brighton College Bangkok is a sister school to Brighton College UK, chosen by The Sunday Times as England’s School of the Decade. Its campus in Bangkok boasts 21-acre grounds with world-class facilities.

We were impressed when we saw the campus grounds at Brighton College Bangkok. It has notable sports facilities, such as two swimming pools, a hall for indoor sports, a football pitch, four tennis courts, a fitness center, and an International Olympic Committee-approved athletics track.

Moreover, its facilities for the performing arts are not lagging behind. Brighton has a 650-seat theater, teaching rooms for individual music lessons, and a studio for dance and gymnastics.

The accessible location of Brighton’s campus is also a plus since it’s near major highways. A drive to the campus from downtown Bangkok only takes 30 minutes.

Notably, Brighton follows the British Curriculum, which is broad and balanced. This then leads to IGCSEs and a choice of taking 21 different A-Level subjects in preparation for university.

We like that the pupils are further enriched by joining co-curricular activities in sports and performing arts. Furthermore, the Brighton Sparks program is for excellent pupils in the Years 8 to 10, and it helps students develop supra-curricular study skills and academic writing.

Another great thing about Brighton is that those in Sixth Form are given the opportunity to study at the sister school in the UK for a week. We like this because this experience can open many doors for the pupils as they discover what’s in store at the world’s best universities.

As for the fees, Brighton College Bangkok has one of the most expensive tuition in the country. Kindergarten tuition starts at 515,000 Baht while enrolling in Sixth Form costs about 816,900 Baht, plus admission fees and academic fees.

Given its world-class facilities, outstanding curriculum, and specialized extracurricular programs, we think that Brighton College Bangkok is an outstanding school that enriches and pushes its pupils for excellence while maintaining a nurturing atmosphere.

Pros

  • Offers the CORe Program from Harvard Business School
  • Fully not-for-profit international school
  • Offers IB program for all year levels
  • Excellent World Languages Program

Cons

  • Expensive fees

NIST International School is the first not-for-profit international school in Bangkok that offers the IB curriculum. Notably, it is consistently listed as one of the top international schools in the country.

This school teaches children from Nursery to Year 13. While many other schools offer some parts of the IB program, NIST teaches all three programs to children ages three to nineteen.

We like the IB program, especially for the early years through Year Six, since the school says it frees children to be children. During the Primary Years Programme (PYP), students explore various subject areas, which are integrated into activities rather than taught in isolation.

After the PYP, students proceed to the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the IBDP in Years 12 and 13. For us, this progression of programs sets an ideal learning structure that enables holistic growth for the students.

Moreover, we like that NIST International School understands the need for variety in learning. It’s great that this school offers a wide range of specialized programs according to the unique interests and abilities of each student.

We also appreciate the NIST’s efforts in developing business-minded students who have a passion for entrepreneurship. Notably, it is the only school in Asia that offers the Credential of Readiness (CORe) program from Harvard Business School.

On the other hand, enrolling in this school to experience its outstanding initiatives and facilities comes at a cost. The tuition fees are on the expensive side and can range from 500,000 Baht to 975,800 Baht, depending on the year of the student.

Pros

  • Low tuition fees compared to other international schools
  • 37 years of history in Bangkok
  • Good sports and recreation facilities
  • Offers a van service

Cons

  • Can improve on the variety of extracurricular activities
  • Limited supplementary programs

Thai Sikh International School (TSIS) is an international school with two campuses in Bangkok. Notably, the Junior School is in the Wongwianyai Campus, while the Senior School is in the Bangna Campus.

A great thing about TSIS is it’s partially funded by the Thai Sikh Foundation. Due to this, it offers some of the lowest tuition fees in Thailand, especially for an international school.

In particular, students only need to pay 233,000 Baht for the annual tuition fee. Given the good facilities of TSIS, including modern classrooms, a swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, and a 400-meter running track, students get a lot in exchange for low fees.

Additionally, Thai Sikh International School makes use of the British National Curriculum for all its students. These are further complemented by Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and the Total Student Development Program (TSDP).

Another thing that we like about TSIS is its diverse student population. Even though historically, the majority of its students were of Indian descent, only about 20% of the student population are Sikh, while the rest are of various nationalities.

We also like that TSIS offers van services for its Wongwianyai and Bangna campuses. This setup is perfect for parents who do not want to go through the infamous Bangkok traffic every day without worrying about the safety of their children coming to and from school.

Pros

  • Affordable tuition fees
  • Offers the B.C. curriculum
  • Beautiful school building with modern facilities
  • Large school grounds
  • Small class sizes

Cons

  • Can improve extracurricular activities in the performing arts
  • Small campus

Next on our list is the British Columbia International School Bangkok, a small off-shore Canadian school that offers internationally-recognized Kindergarten to Secondary School programs.

Notably, it is the only certified and accredited Canadian school in Bangkok, and it is the sole institution in the country that offers the sought-after B.C. curriculum.

We appreciate that the British Columbia International School Bangkok takes into account the cultural practices and traditions of its students. The school celebrates Canadian Christmas, as well as Songkran and Loy Krathong.

Moreover, BCISB offers excellent ELL one-on-one support for students who need to improve their English, while Thai language support is also available for newly-arrived expat students. We also like that they offer these services at no additional cost.

We also like that they have a wide range of athletic opportunities in their extracurricular programs. Table tennis, basketball, futsal, volleyball, ice hockey, badminton, swimming, and field sports are all offered at BCISB.

Notably, since BCISB is accredited by the Ministries of Education in Thailand and British Columbia, Canada, its graduating students receive two diplomas from the two countries. Many of their students have gone on to study in prestigious universities abroad.

Another good thing about BCISB is that its tuition fees are affordable. The total annual costs are only 465,000 Baht for Kindergarten, approximately 550,000 Baht for Primary School, and 620,000 Baht for Secondary School.

Pros

  • Diverse student body
  • Exceptional facilities
  • Expansive campus grounds, including a lake
  • Beautiful social spaces

Cons

  • Expensive tuition fees
  • Expensive boarding fees
  • Roads leading to the school are narrow

Harrow International School Bangkok is a day and British-style boarding school that offers the English National Curriculum for its upper and lower levels, and eventually IGCSEs in Year 11 and A/AS Levels in Year 13.

A great thing about Harrow is its expansive grounds north of the capital, which takes about 45 minutes by car when the traffic is light. It is also beside Don Muang Airport, making it convenient for those flying in.

We were also blown away by the facilities at Harrow International Bangkok. It even has its own lake, which sets a serene environment conducive to learning.

Notably, Harrow has, by far, the most expensive tuition fees compared to the other schools on this list. Annual costs range from 499,000 Baht to 929,000 Baht, depending on the year level.

With these fees, we were glad to find out that Harrow offers various scholarships that enable students to acquire up to a 30% discount for students who excel in academia, sports, or music.

It’s worth taking note that admissions prioritize students who are native English speakers, those with siblings already enrolled in the school, those who apply for Harrow boarding, and those studying in an English-language international school, a bilingual school, or an international program.

On the downside, the roads leading to the entrance of this school are narrow. Since Harrow has over a thousand students, this has caused heavy traffic and inconvenience to the residents.

Nonetheless, Harrow is a good school that opens doors to its students at a global level. We are impressed to see that most of its graduates have received offers and were admitted to Oxford, Cambridge, Cornell, Kings College, and other prestigious universities.
