The 5 Highest-Rated Motels in Bangkok

How We Picked the Best Motels in Bangkok

Facilities

We checked the quality of rooms and amenities available at each motel to see if it provides a comfortable place of rest and relaxation for its guests.

Affordability

We based this on the rates of each motel compared to the others in its area.

Accessibility

We only chose motels in an accessible location, near a train station or a bus stop, or tourist attractions and landmarks. We also checked if each one is in a safe area and easy to find, especially at night.

Customer Ratings & Satisfaction

Finally, we based this on our experiences while considering the feedback we received from our surveys and other relevant sources found online.

Pros

  • 10-minute walk from Khaosan Road
  • Affordable prices
  • Ideal location for tourists exploring old town Bangkok
  • Has 24-hr security
  • Beautifully decorated
  • Has a cafe and craft beer bar

Cons

  • Not near BTS or MRT stations

If your travel itinerary is centered on exploring old town Bangkok, Lost Inn Bangkok is a top option for accommodations in the area. Opened in 2018, this motel has a modern industrial-style decor that drastically contrasts the sights outside the building.

Located only a kilometer from, Khaosan Road, Lost Inn Bangkok is conveniently located near tourist destinations, bars, restaurants, clubs, and night markets.

Furthermore, it is only a ten-minute walk from notable landmarks such as Ratchadamnoen boxing stadium, The Grand Palace (Wat Phra Kaew), Reclining Buddha (Wat Po), The Giant Swing, Wat Ratchanatda, and the world-famous Flower Market.

Aside from its distinct location, what we like most about Lost Inn Bangkok is its room variety. Different types of travelers and groups can comfortably choose from different room types such as Family Suites, Gang Rooms, and even a Mixed Dormitory.

We also found the prices reasonable since its Gang Room for eight people costs 3,900 Baht a night. Solo travelers can also find a comfortable spot in the four-person Mixed Dormitory for only 440 Baht per night.

On the flip side, these dorm-type rooms have a shared bathroom, which is often reported as having an unpleasant odor by the guests we surveyed. On the other hand, people staying in private rooms did not experience this in their ensuite bathrooms.

Finally, we find the customer service at Lost Inn Bangkok commendable. It has friendly and accommodating staff and security, and the reception always has two people there to quickly address the concerns and check-in guests arriving at odd hours.

Pros

  • Chic locomotive theme all throughout the building
  • Friendly and hospitable staff
  • Has a cafe
  • Affordable rates

Cons

  • Has a limited number of rooms

Tales Khaosan is a compact motel and cafe tucked away in a small alley across Wat Chana Songkhram on Khaosan Road. What we like most about this place is its retro locomotive theme that spans from the cafe to its rooms and dormitories.

We noticed that Tales Khaosan is popular because of its mixed dorm rooms. However, it only has two available, one for twelve persons and another for eight.

Nonetheless, we are definitely onboard its locomotive concept since the beds in the dormitories resemble the ones found in trains. Each guest can relax in a capsule-type bed, which was surprisingly easy to get into.

For those looking for more privacy, Tales Khaosan has a private room available that can fit up to two guests. Although, we should mention that it also shares the same bathroom with the other rooms in the facility.

Another aspect we appreciate is the friendly staff who take their time interacting with their guests on a human level.

We are also glad to note that this place has even more perks, including clean bathrooms, cold air conditioning systems, and complimentary toiletries.

Moreover, we were pleasantly surprised that the rooms are quiet even though the area is bustling. Given its good location, it offers reasonable rates that start at 680 Baht per person for a dorm-type stay.

On the downside, Tales Khaosan does not offer a complimentary breakfast for its guests. This is quite a let-down since it houses a cafe that serves pretty good croissants and coffee.

Pros

  • Has a rooftop cafe and restaurant
  • Offers a wide variety of rooms
  • 5-minutes walk from Onnut BTS Skytrain Station

Cons

  • Occasional reports of a foul odor coming from the pipes

Next on our list is Kokotel Sukhumvit 50, a motel in the Phra Kanong district of Bangkok. Because of its location and room types, this is a popular choice for families looking for quiet and affordable accommodations.

Located in a laid-back neighborhood, guests staying at Kokotel Sukhumvit 50 have access to many eateries serving various cuisines. You can find authentic home-style Thai, Vietnamese, and Korean restaurants and coffee shops in the back alleys.

We also found it a convenient spot for tourists exploring Bangkok since it’s only a five-minute walk from Onnut BTS Skytrain station. Notable cultural attractions found near this motel are the Floating Market and Wat Dhammamongkol, a Buddhist temple.

What we like most about Kokotel Sukhumvit 50 is its wide variety of rooms, which are all spacious and sleek-looking. Notably, some of its rooms can even accommodate families with several children.

Furthermore, we found its rates are reasonable given that its Family Suite and Party Room cost less than 2,500 Baht per night. On the other hand, the rates for Twin Rooms range from 1,100 Baht to 1,400 Baht.

As with other budget accommodations near the Chao Phraya River, we should mention that Kokotel Sukhumvit 50 occasionally deals with foul odors from the sewers seeping in from the bathrooms.

Nonetheless, this is not a common issue and can be remedied by covering the toilets and firmly closing the bathrooms. We also appreciate that the staff is accommodating enough to let people switch rooms whenever this problem is encountered.

Pros

  • Clean, spacious rooms
  • Pet-friendly motel
  • Plenty of parking space
  • Affordable rooms
  • Has a shuttle bus

Cons

  • Location is not ideal for tourists

If you are looking for a budget accommodation that allows pets, the M5 Residence is a suitable choice. Besides that, this motel made it to our list because of its affordable rooms and friendly customer service.

Another thing we like about M5 Residence is its proximity to the Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). It is also a popular option for travelers waiting for connecting flights from DMK to Bangkok International Airport.

We also like that all rooms at M5 Residence offer excellent city views, WiFi, toiletries, and cable TV. Its prices are also affordable, with room rates ranging from 900 Baht to 1,190 Baht.

Although we think M5 Residence is a good choice for those who want to stay near the airport and those who have business at the IMPACT Convention Center, this motel is not exactly ideal for those who want to explore Bangkok.

M5 Residence is 17.8 kilometers away from The Grand Palace and all the major cultural attractions in the heart of Bangkok. It is also not accessible via BTS or MRT and takes a one-hour bus ride to the city center.

Finally, note that M5 Residence easily gets fully booked on days when there is a concert at IMPACT. If you are also traveling to Bangkok for an event in this popular venue, be sure to book in advance to secure a room.

Pros

  • Good for tourist groups
  • Central location at Si Lom
  • Near Lumphini Park
  • 10-minute walk from BTS and MRT stations

Cons

  • Can be noisy at night

Simply Sleep Hostel provides cozy accommodations in the heart of Bangkok. Located near SiLom Road in Bang Rak District, it offers an affordable option for travelers wanting to be in the middle of all cultural and nightlife activities.

Although it identifies itself as a hostel, we included it in our list of top-rated Bangkok hotels since it does not offer a common feature found in hostels: shared rooms or mixed dormitory-style options.

Simply Sleep Hostel has ten room types that can accommodate a single person, couples, and groups with up to eight people. Room rates for two people average 1,300 Baht a night, while its family rooms range from 1,800 Baht to 3,000 Baht.

Another thing we like about Simply Sleep Hostel is its close location to Lumpini Park. Moreover, it is only a ten-minute walk from two train stations: MRT Samyan and BTS Chong Nonsi.

Despite the fact that the rates of Simply Sleep Hostel are more expensive than those in this list, we cannot overlook that the reason for its higher prices is its central location. Nonetheless, it is still cheaper than other lodging options in the area.

We should also mention that its central location is also a downside since we’ve noted from our surveys that the noise from other buildings seeps into the rooms at night. However, this is a more common problem for those staying in balcony rooms.

Finally, as its name suggests, Simply Sleep Hostel only offers a place for sleeping. It doesn’t have accommodation packages with meals, so it’s best to adjust your morning itinerary to find a good place for breakfast before heading on to your Bangkok exploration.
